What is REAL Shea Butter?

I always thought shea butter was yellow. In the local Korean and African beauty stores, shea butter is bright yellow in color with a strong smokey odor. I have been working on developing my own product line for almost a year now and during my journey of learning about different ingredients that benefit our hair, I discovered that the shea butter I used in my hair at the beginning of my hair growth journey was not shea butter at all. The yellow shea butter sold in many Korean and African hair stores in the U.S.

Satin/Silk Pillowcases – Do they really help?

I decided to try the whole satin pillow case idea instead of my satin bonnet or scarf and I find that they can be more damaging than good. Here’s why: Without your hair tied down they create tangles & knots Your hair may not stay on just the pillowcase itself If the air is dry it will still dry out your hair They can’t retain moisture in the hair So now lets review the above reasons; Without your hair tied down they create tangles & knots Absolutely! Although I find that sleeping on a satin or silk pillowcase may keep your hair from being really smashed down, the hair tends to tangle and knot more because it is out and not tied down to prevent friction as you sleep.

Is Co-Washing Overrated?

Is co-washing (conditioner washing) the hair overrated? It is to a certain degree. Co-washing can add moisture to dry natural and/or relaxed hair, but so can a good deep conditioning treatment.
